Terry Lloyd led both the Wings and the National Lacrosse League in goals scored with 113 and teammate John Grant set a new NLL record with 134 assists in final statistics released by the league office in Montreal.
Terry narrowly missed breaking Paul Suggate’s mark of 115 goals set last year. Terry also established a new Wings’ record as he broke brother Larry’s mark of 82 goals in 1974.
Grant’s assist total snapped Suggate’s standard of 124 in 1974. Grant also finished tied for sixth place in scoring with 198 points, the same number registered by Maryland’s Brian Tasker on 73 goals.
The league scoring championship went to Long Island’s Doug Hayes, who had 230 points on 104 goals. Suggate, who won the scoring title last year with 239 points, finished second with 219 points on 92 goals.
The next three finishers were: Montreal’s John Davis, 208 points on 79 goals; Boston’s Ivan Thompson, 207 points on 92 goals and Quebec’s Dave Durante, 206 points on 89 goals.
After Grant’s sixth place finish, the Wings had three others in the loop’s top 20.
Terry Lloyd wound up eight with 169 points, Jim Wasson tied for 14th with 146 points on 78 goals and Larry Lloyd finished 16th with 144 points on 68 goals.
In other departments, Terry Lloyd led the Wings with 32 power play goals; Carm Collins was the leader with eight short-handed goals; Collins also was first in penalty minutes with 179 followed closely by Derek Forbes with 172; Terry Lloyd took the most shots-on-goal with 304, and he also had the best shooting percentage with a 37.2 mark.
In goaltending, both Wings’ regulars, Wayne Platt and John Hamilton, finished with 14.8 goals-against averages. Platt was 13-15-2 while Hamilton was 8-10-0 in the Wings’ 21-25-2 season.
The Wings posted their best record against the Long Island Tomahawks, the regular season champions, with a 6-4 mark. Against the rest of the loop, the Wings were 5-5 vs. Montreal; 4-5-1 vs. Quebec; 4-6 vs. Maryland and 2-5-1 vs. Boston.
