Syracuse Stingers will be one of the most exciting teams in the league this year. Our players were selected not only for their lacrosse prowess, but also for their exceptional stamina. By combining these two main aspects, we’ll develop a well-rounded team, capable of playing all-out for 60 minutes.
By drafting such players as Gaylord Powless and Bruce Todman, we acquired players who aren’t known for their physical strength, but rather for their leadership and scoring abilities.
Such players as Sid George, Travis Cook, Jim Shaw and our B.C. import, Ken Alexander, provide the Stingers with size and muscle. These four players not only score goals and work regular plays with their lines, but also act as team policemen if the need arises.
In Ron Hill, we have acquired an exceptional player who can shoot left or right equally well. For this reason, Hill will play a major role in our team plays and fast break patterns. Ken Fournier has tremendous reflexes and through training camp, he has progressively improved in coping with unexpected situations quickly and accurately.
Our goaltending this year is as strong as any in the National Lacrosse League. Bob McCready, Alfie Jacques and Brian Cuddy will not only produce a defensive game in the nets, but will also play a vital role in our fast-break for the offensive portion of the game.
If we can utilize our fast break situations and maintain our steady goaltending, the Stingers will be one of the top contenders for a playoff spot.
