Our team will be a highly competitive one; it should be a major contender this year in the National Lacrosse League.
The difference between a championship and one of the runner-up spots will be the performance of some of our untested players.
Just about everyone in pro lacrosse knows what our team leader Carm Collins, high-scoring John Grant and goalie Wayne Platt can do. They also know about some of the other veterans from my Mann Cup Title team at Peterborough last year. Seasoned performers such as Jim Wasson, Mike Collins, Terry Davis and Zeny Lipinski, to name a few.
We will attempt to build this team around Collins, whom I believe will be one of the best players in the league. We are great believers in a good team defence which will in itself trigger a sound offence. The Wings will continue to use Grant as a keyman when we have a power-play situation.
But what about the new faces? Players like Larry Lloyd, Larry Ferguson, Barry Richardson, Brian Robinson, Bob Goulding and Terry Rowland. These are the players that definitely will determine the Wings future in 1974.
If they play as well during the season as they have in pre-season games, the Philadelphia Wings are going to be an extremely difficult team to beat.
