MONTREAL (CP) — Two players tied the league record of eight goals in a game in National Lacrosse League play in the last week. Doug Hayes, who had 13 goals and four assists in three games through Sunday night, fired eight goals against Boston Bolts last Tuesday night as Long Island Tomahawks continued their first-place pace.
It was Terry Lloyd’s turn Sunday night, as he also equalled the mark to power Philadelphia Wings to a 22-16 win over Maryland Arrows. Lloyd’s brother and team-mate Larry was the first NLL player to score eight goals in a game, turning the trick Aug. 2, 1974, against Maryland. Hayes’ output kept him in front in the individual scoring race.
He had 90 goals and 106 assists for 196 points going into Long Island’s game Monday night against Quebec Caribous. John Davis of Montreal Quebecois has 195 points, including 72 goals. Maryland’s Paul Suggate is next with 79 goals and 185 points.
